What Are Exfoliators?

    What Are Exfoliators?

In the skincare world, exfoliators are typically chemical-based creams and solutions to be applied to the skin, much like cleansers.

Using acidic ingredients like alpha-hydroxy acids, salicylic acids, and enzymes, exfoliators work to renew the skin by stripping away dead skin cells.

Exfoliators can be described as ‘more intense cleansers’ - that’s why they’re typically used two times a week or less, depending on product instructions. Here are our recommendations here at DewyGlowSkin.

    COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

COSRX has an excellent reputation in the K Beauty sphere for good reason. Their Blackhead Power Liquid is an excellent gentle exfoliator for general use. Another similar item from COSRX is their AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner

Guinot Gommage Biologic Exfoliating Gel 50ml

Filled with green tea extracts and fruit-derived acids, Guinot's Gommage Exfoliating Gel is great for exfoliating at a slightly higher strength.

Image Skincare Ageless Total Microderm Exfoliator

As stated in the product description: "This power-packed facial exfoliator combines enzymatic, physical, and chemical exfoliants to refine and renew dull, uneven skin." Sounds like a lot of bang for your buck. Besides that, with the power of bamboo powder, this'll give you some dewy, glowy skin.

Keep in mind that some exfoliators state that you cannot use other ingredients with certain exfoliators. For example, the COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner states that avoid using it with other acids (other AHA/BHAs, retinol, and the like).

If you have sensitive skin, you may want to start with a gentle exfoliator and work your way up to a more powerful one. You should also avoid exfoliating if you have any cuts or open sores on your skin - it's not meant to be a disinfectant. (haha)
